Young Writers’ Programs:

Martin, Ripley, Jackson and Parsons



The West Tennessee Writing Project (WTWP) announces another year of Saturday Young Writers’ Clubhouses, a series of fun writing experiences for 3rd-8th graders held in three locations in West Tennessee.  Sessions have been added this year in Parsons at the UT Martin Center.  Sessions are also offered at the UT Martin Ripley Center, St. Mary’s in Jackson and the main campus of UT Martin.  Limited scholarships are available here.

The dates, locations and themes of the eight Young Writers’ Clubhouse sessions are as follows:

Jackson @ St. Mary’s Catholic School

Nov. 5 – Books in the Making (creating and writing books)

Feb. 25 – Digital Storytelling

Martin – UT Martin, Gooch Hall

Nov. 5 – Extra! Extra! Write All About It! (newspapers in the making)

Feb. 25 – Hunting for Mysteries: A Scavenger Hunt

Ripley – UT Martin Ripley Center

Oct. 8 – Postponed to a later date:  Writing Our Memories: Personal Writing

Feb. 18 – Extra! Extra! Write All About It! (newspapers in the making)

Parsons – UT Martin Parsons Center

Oct. 15 – Mystery Behind Our Masks (writing stories and personal narratives from different perspectives)

March 10 – Fantastic Futuristic Fairy Tales (recreating fairy tales)

Registration is $35 per session or two sessions for $60.  Online registration is available through the UT Martin office of Extended Campus and Online : http://www.utm.edu/departments/ecce/youthwriting/writingreg.php.  The registration form can also be printed from the WTWP Web site and mailed: http://www.utm.edu/wtwp.  For questions about registration, call the office of ECOS at 731-881-7082.

Activities offered during the clubhouses include writing workshops, mini-lessons on content and editing strategies, writing response groups, and one-to-one conferences with West Tennessee Writing Project Teachers.
